The Sultan’s Daughter finally got the launch it deserved, by former Independent Member of Parliament for the electorate of Indi and all-round inspirational woman, Cathy McGowan. The book was launched along with Dorothy Simmon’s new historical novel Of Breath and Blood in a celebration of regional writing at the Albury LibraryMuseum on Friday 20 November. McGowan is herself the author of a recent memoir, Cathy Goes to Canberra. Despite the Covid-safe limited numbers there was a lot of love in the room. If, like most of us, you weren’t there you can read a transcript of Downing’s speech on her blog.
